One of Europe's most underrated destinations is now one of its most practical ones.
Bulgaria launched a digital nomad visa in December 2025, offering remote workers a two-year stay at one of the lowest income thresholds in the EU — approximately $35,460 per year, compared to $39,000–$45,000 required by Spain, Portugal, and Malta.
To qualify, you must work for a company outside the EU, own at least 25% of an international company, or have provided services to a non-Bulgarian employer for at least a year. The process takes time — plan for up to four months from start to finish — but the payoff includes full Schengen travel rights across 29 countries. Black Sea coastline, a low cost of living, and an EU address: Bulgaria is worth a serious look.
