A citizenship-by-investment pathway that is being paved
In an effort to attract investment, Argentina is building South America's first citizenship-by-investment pathway, created by presidential decree in 2025, designed to grant citizenship to qualifying investors without a physical presence requirement. The program is expected to open in the second half of 2026, with an anticipated investment in the range of $500,000 — though the official thresholds and launch date has not been announced.
The upside is real: Argentine citizenship carries the right to live and work across the nine Mercosur countries, plus a passport with visa-free short-stay travel to the Schengen Area and 170+ destinations. It is not, however, a backdoor to living in Europe.
